Well, they're trying to classify solitary confinement as a type of torture since it makes people insane, oftentimes indefinitely.

As they say humans are social animals, so long periods of isolation and alienation do take a toll on one's mental health. I have no idea how long it takes to start going mad though; I'll ask my imaginary friend next time I see him.
