My Great Grandpa used to be a German soldier until he got crippled from the waist below. When he returned to Germany he found a wife within months and even had kids with her. She stayed with him until his death. Times were really different when women still needed a provider.

He was a farmer and continued to do it after the war idk in what capacity, I wasn't alive. Also handicapped soldiers got a good pension in Germany, The Führer was Generous in that aspect and the BRD is a welfare state.

Absolutely brutal, I think it really depends, in the UK more men were left then in Germany and in the UK women were also more independent than in Germany especially under the Nazis, there was a greater pressure to marry and Veterans were seen as Heros of the third reich. Maybe my Great Grandfather was also a Terra Mogger (though I doubt that looking into the mirror).

I don't actually know that much, he lived until like ~90 years old, I even knew him vaguely myself. Maybe I should do more research. And in the 1940s everyone was literate bruh

Their parents however may have not been literate. It's hard enough to find details about your heritage because so much is forgotten, and parents don't write diaries to leave to their descendants.
