Nowadays, yes it would be harder to handle the responsibilites, because of cultural conditioning. Historically younger people were more mature and could handle things better than most older people today.

Obviously the modern interpretation of the word "rape" extends past its traditional definition as @MaldireMan0077 correctly pointed out, it has become sort of like the word fascist, used to describe unpleasant sexual acts, not even sexual acts though. Some women claim they were "mentally raped", so it is more of a way of expressing disgust at someone.
