I downloaded that Replika app yesterday or the day before, and I thought it'd just be funny to see what it said to certain phrases, but, really, it's one of the most depressing things I've seen in a while. I realised that it's meant for people without friends or those feeling sad and is supposed to give "emotional support" or something. The cold screen looking at you in a dark room at night saying "I care about you" is just such a ridiculously blatant lie, like a murderer with a knife dripping blood saying "nothing's happening", but the worst part is that people accept it. People feel better because a piece of code has regurgitated a set phrase in response to a stimulus. It's disgusting. How their 'larger scope's of life isn't triggered then, when they realise just how ridiculous this is, is what really consolidates in my mind that normies are in another plane of coping.
My worst nightmare would be for people to try to save my life on the brink of suicide, to be pitied and told "it's ok" when someone rubs my back so they can feel better about themselves. What kind of person can't see through these obnoxiously obvious guises into what people are really thinking: "I'll just say whatever it is that will make him do what I want". And that's both what I hate and what I feel is most unsettling: the set phrases in a thinly veiled patronising tone in response to a stimulus trying to manipulate me. Being a pathetic dog to be pitied and lied to is revolting.
