I agree with you when it comes to dating, but I believe when it comes to just friendship groups, there's more leeway with looks/charisma.
Sort of. But even in friend circles, looks play a huge role and charisma means very little.
Good looking dudes and ladies usually don't want to associate too much with an ugly guy, even if he's charismatic, because they think it brings down their personal brand value.
I know this from first hand experience. I have friends who are good looking and we do hang out once in a while. Among them, I'm nothing more than a side character. And if their other good looking friends are around, they distance themselves from me, as in they change their tone towards me or treat me like I'm a stranger to the group.
