Whenever I have to interact with others I miss out on noticing most of their facial expressions, changes in tone, or body language. Even when I notice a few of these, I can only make very surface level inferences about their emotional state, which are pathetic. I find just the back and forth of conversation while maintaining eye-contact or trying to make small talk stressful and exhausting, generally I try to mimic their smiles or tones but it still comes out as flat. I can avoid saying things which are inappropriate, talking extensively about things which are boring or make eye contact and nod or shake my head and don't stim in public but I miss out on anything beyond surface level understanding based on verbal communication. So how much are people here able to read what others think and feel and the subtext that is present in conversations?
