I think the last time I tried this was in early 20s w/ girl from group of strangers I was rooming w/ to save money at anime con (we were all desperate and poor)

It was something like 2 dollars for a panda hat, 3 dollars for a pair, so I bought the pair (I like a deal) and offered her one and she refused saying she didn't want to feel like she owed me a favor (brutal - what does she think I'm going to feel entitled to sex for $1.50 ?)

Pretty sure if Chad offered her a 2-dollar soda she would've accepted.

i remember girls refusing small gifts, all throughout middleschool and high school, as early as 2002-2003, a decade before Tinder

it always gets worse, but all the essential bad stuff was already there at the turn of the millenium:
- girls not wanting the traditional experience of dating and being asked out by boys, getting flowers or gifts, etc
- rejecting and disliking easy choices like dating a boy next door, or in the same class, they wanted to get the most attractive guy within a 50km radius already
- gossiping about approaches from boys if they happened, like it was something abnormal and that guy was dangerous or a threat
- snapping at you and treating you like disposable trash, as if tinder already existed and better men were just one swipe away
