It's a common trend that "hard work leads to more work" and I can say, this is fairly true.

For you, It demonstrates you are capable of doing that much within a given time, so if you are capable, you must be the most capable as you can, according to your bosses. More work for the same price.

For everyone else, they want to compete, but if everyone is hard working, no one is. Thus, the standard of "hard work" is further raised, rendering everyone's achievements meaningless. This is known as Involution in Chinese language.

For example?

Manufacturing. If there's something that runs at a consistent speed creating a consistent work load then it's expected that you complete your side of the job at least as fast as the machine to stay caught up, if your boss is able to out work the machine by a high enough margin then a secondary job will be assigned. small amounts of slowdown such as having a sip of water every half hour are tolerated in the most high paced of jobs and sometimes the job is slower paced and allows for 5 to 10 seconds of downtime for every minute or two if you work yourself hard enough which is short enough to not worry about being given more work but long enough to have a chance to check your phone and switch to a new podcast or type a couple words.
