A guard dog would be a good defense partner.
The two of us together could put up quite a fight against an attacker.
My only concern is the money it would cost me to feed the dog and taking it to the vet.

They won't guard you against bullets or drones. They are worthless in current day.

They’re 2nd for the most responsible for dog bite deaths after pit bulls
A lab pit mix is the best all around dog you can get. Cheap and plentiful, friendly looking with playful droopy ears but stout, muscular and strong if exercised regularly, easily trainable, loyal and will notify you of intruders. The lab offsets some of the bad characteristics of the pitbull like the aggressive look and temperment but you still get a loyal, strong, good looking dog. I have a female black lab pit and everyone compliments me on her.
