Steins;Gate was the first VN I played a couple years ago now, great story, but not an adult VN. I was under the weather a few weeks ago and gave some adult VNs a shot on steam: FreshWomen, Being a DIK, and Leap of Faith.
Leap of Faith was the game which made me want to look into other adult VNs. The story floored me. I completed two routes and then had enough. I've even considered bringing it up to normies because it portrays mental health in a compelling non-sensationalist way.
Being a DIK is, like many adult VNs it seems, a college dating sim. Not exactly my cup of tea in general. It's saved by actually having some interesting choices, good twists, and fucking Tybalt. So punchable. I haven't completed the last chapter of any route though.
FreshWomen was the first one I played. I picked it because the renders looked better than most. The story felt surreal to me. Choices didn't really seem to matter much, i.e. it was possible to get with every woman with no consequences. Worst of all it ends with a cliffhanger, so it's an unfinished game. That seems like the norm with AVNs though, my fault for not paying attention when I bought it.
