I finished portal. this was a bad suggestion. I don't think I'm ever playing a valve game after this one. the main reason I got suggested portal was because "it's relaxing and has a short completion time" well the first part of it really is but everything changes after testchamber 18 (18-19 are the last two levels and they're like half the game)
I needed 3 days to finish the game, so it's not short, and it's not easy for me either, I'm old and too much of a noob for this shit I barely finished original doom and hl1 with speedhack, sneaking mechanics and testing my reflexes mid game when the promise was something different = game isn't an enjoyable experience.
what gave me early signs that bullshit was about to come was the testchamber 18 stage in which you have to jump and press e without reaching the platform all while the fireball is being redirected. portal funneling was ok then at testchamber 19 you had to time the exit so quick that it was nearly impossible without speedhack. the hardest games I finished were all with the help of cheat engine and at testchamber 19 I just dialed up speedhack with no hesitation. I wasn't in the mood for more bullshit.

I still think the first half of it (pre testchamber 18) was enjoyable, so idk. it sits right on my boundary for things being too difficult to be enjoyable.

So far the most enjoyable game I ever played was superhot. it was way more of a better experience than this.

I frankly don't know how pissed I would be if I decided to re-play and complete dark souls 1, I dropped this game when I was a kid so I'll avoid it.

for that reason I replayed ds1 with mods since this post
soulsbourne games are within margin of difficulty and all of them are designed to induce maximum amounts of rage and frustration for the player.

I did play ds1 in my teen days, but did not finish it, so I thought maybe I should revisit and try to finish it while making it enjoyable to my current mentality, even though it is the hardest game i ever played my entire life alongside hollow knight.

I set my mentality correct this time: mods from the start, no stubborness no testing of skill unless it's convenient.

with mods the game was really enjoyable and it cuts lots of corners to be an enjoyable mid-short experience for me, the plot is your average medieval tale, dramatic and tender at the same time, yes I still had like 50 deaths and still broke the game which is why i had cheat table and precautions (save set) some bosses I finished without mods to prove I still have that dog in me somewhere.

but I cannot imagine people playing this and finishing this without help, especially the lost izalith part. it reminds me of hollow knight a lot, the fact that countless people even in my country play this game and even get plats on a console without mods or help makes me feel worse as a noob. now I understand why most gamers and autists want more difficulty because if you finish shit like this without a cheat you're bound to ask for more. people call it masochism or skills but it's really just adaption/addiction to difficulty in games which after you wouldn't be able to enjoy anything less and must ask for more.

@TooSomething can relate to this part?

I have never played any of these games. The toighest nut for me was Crash Bandicoot 1.
Maybe that is tame compared to other games.
Another game I remember being tough the further you progress is Jackie Chan Stuntmaster.
The combat system is pretty deep for a PS1 game and once you master it you can do some insane combos.
The last, final boss is brutal, imo. Took me a few attempts to finally get it right.

I only play such games when I am in the mood for some literal masochism.

If you know any tough games, but actual thought put into them, give me your recommendations.

The only game that has ever made me rage quit several times was Resident Evil 4 and I have played that shit as the HD remaster and as the original.

Pos QTEs will always be bullshit.
Scripted enemies etc. . This game severely insulted my intelligence and I fail to see its appeal other than for nostalgia.

Always interested to know what people are playing atm, especially fellow brocels. I'll begin, feel free to discuss your thoughts on a game or what I'm playing right now :whatfeels:

Doom 2016 - This game is a balls to the wall exhilarating shooter, that shoots 1st and asks questions later, still need to play Eternal as well

Ghost of Tsushima - Brilliant open world samurai game, to whet my appetite for AC Shadows, loved Sly & InFamous as well

Call of Duty Cold War - Surprised to be into COD after dismissing it most my gaming life. It's addictive as hell and this is a banger of a COD

MGS5 - Back into this, gameplay is amazing but fuck getting S Rank on every mission, why can't they just make these trophies more reasonable

Elden Ring - Soldiering through this but its a slog tbh, loved the souls games, this is 1 of the worst imo, has no place being open world

Streets of rage 4 - What a retro throwback this is and the 2D artstyle and visuals are gorgeous. The antithesis to every open world

AC Mirage - Always playing some AC 1 way or another, this series has been like crack to me, addictive formula like COD and the rich tapestry of Baghdad is hard to resist
1000 hours on HOI4 and total war games

Just beat AC Mirage and started the Valley of memory expansion. Also copped Saros so been playing that, hard as fuck tho. And I got back into Hitman 2, waiting on a sale for Hitman 3 with all the content.

Copping the new 007 game this month then AC4 remake oc. Got so many games in my backlog, cba with the boring arse games like KCD2 or BOTW which take a fuckin lifetime to complete but unfortunately I have a lot of those in my backlog.

DARK SOULS III
Solo? Always curious how people play these games, I play them solo ever since og Demons souls. I still need to beat DKS3, not played it in years, same for ER & Sekiro which I have. Tbh the only fromsoft games I beat was Bloodborne & Dark Souls 2 SOTFS. Got very far in the others but never beat. I'd like to beat ER, Sekiro, DKS3 eventually.

Yes, solo. I'm getting towards the end of the game and it's overrated. First 2/3 of the base game is mid but tbf the last 1/3 is peak. Ashes of Ariandel dlc is bad & I haven't reached the second dlc yet.

My favourite fromsoft souls games has to be Bloodborne & Dark Souls 1.

I find them actually relatively easy to play compared to other games, since the story is told via the environment & item descriptions rather than through overt cinematic storytelling. I also find their dying worlds, peaceful and calming to play.

Warthunder because its free

Metal Gear Solid V: TPP
Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence

Stalker 2 (from steamunlocked). Might replay the whole series when im done with this one.

I play Apex and NTE at the moment. Apex since season 0

FF X HD remaster on XBOX. Looks comfy visually but combat it's kinda tedious.

It's funny that it has lots of semi-naked NPCs, female playable characters are hot too, it's like once Square progressed into realistic models they immediately went into creating goon material.

ye solo is definitely the proper way to play these games as intended. Dark Souls 1 was great, never finished it, think I made it past Blight town which was a memorable area. I always play as knight in these games with a sword and shield and some ranged magic. I wish I had more of a varied play style but I never make it far enough to unlock the best gear and magic. I need to get back to Elden Ring, not played it in years, I have 100+ hours into it but still haven't beat the main game. The DLC expansion is supposed to be nightmare fuel, not sure if I'd be ready for that. As for Sekiro, well I've been stuck on Ganichiro for fucking years, can't seem to beat that bastard.

I usually play Battlefield 2 via BF2Hub, Outlast Trials, Bloons TD 6, Ark: Survival Evolved

Just finished playing The walking dead game. Enjoyed it thoroughly. Going to move onto a similar style of game and play Detroit become Human which I've heard is very detailed and there are many endings that are affected by your choices

Playing Hogwarts Legacy at the moment on the PS5 (initially I thought it was bad, but I actually like some parts of the games, mainly like some of the puzzles, although the combat can be a little whacky).

May try some dark fantasy or puzzle games after.

Now I am playing Persona 4 Golden. All the characters are super bluepilled like in P3 but of course they have to be cause it’s animay.

An okay story but doesn’t feel cool enough to keep playing, not sure if I'll finish this one.

its been an hour since i started and it feels pretty interesting.
Finished resident evil requiem a few hours back, had some fun but it was slop nevertheless.
