Company pandering to niche audience = they have a higher standard to live up to and have to make sure their product is up to snuff so they don't lose them.
Company pandering to large audience aka normies = they have much less to live up to and will continually streamline and dumb down core gameplay to expand to an even larger audience

Elden Ring is a flask spam fest with no punishment for dying, bosses areas are now just a circle or a square, can't get invaded if you're alone, no weapon/armor durability, spirit ashes, etc

All of this in order to trick normies into believing that they're good, when in reality there isn't much to take into account to play at a decent level, which it is the only skill level that FromShit games have to offer (a.k.a Pro-Normie)
