Game journalists always trash harder more complex games and praise mindless easy ones. Look at how they scored older Monster Hunter games as an example. Monster Hunter didn't start getting great reviews from Western critics untill they significantly dumbed down the gameplay in World.

Even if a game is blatantly shittier with less content than its predecessor "game journalists" will give it better reviews if it's easier. Case in point Rayman Legends

Legends is a worse game than origins in almost every measure. It has less content, more gimmick levels and a tedious completionist grind where you have to replay levels you already beat. Yet these journalists give it a better score simply because it's easy.
