I work in fast food and my store rejects the vast majority of the people who apply. A good chunk don't even get an interview to begin with, and out of those who do, less than half will make it to the second interview. Also from what I've seen, a lot of job ads for basic fast food jobs are asking for 1 year of experience. If you have no relevant experience I don't know what you could possibly do other than lie on your resume and hope you don't get caught.
Things weren't always like this. When I got my first fast food job in the mid 2000s, I just showed up wearing street clothes, filled out a very basic application, and the manager came out and interviewed me on the spot and hired me, full time. No suit and tie, no resume, no second interview, no waiting for weeks to hear back from them, no starting part time and being told "maybe we'll give you full time hours after a year". Those days are long gone though.
Sometimes I feel like a loser for being 40 and still flipping burgers. But at least I have full time hours and healthcare. I mean I'm still a low IQ genetic loser, but I'm one of the "lucky ones" in that demographic. That's why I'm clinging to the job I have for dear life.
Anyway, I don't think the job market is ever going to be remotely decent ever again. Things will be shit until we get UBI.
And since they're relevant, I'll also plug my
nuclear economypill thread.
