Granted I've never played them outside of a few minutes. However, the impressions I get are that before Elden Ring the games changed somewhat with their gameplay formula. With Elden Ring the series returned to the overly simplistic gameplay of 3 with added roll delay and now the series is stuck with the same combat system with every new game since Elden Ring sold so much.

Souls games have basically become the new Call of Duty or Assassin's Creed.

THANK YOU. ive been saying this forever since elden ring. i love souls games i grew up on them but the millions of copies and souls likes are ruining the joy of it. i hated wukong not because it's an objectively bad game but because by the time i played it i had played several souls like in the span of 3 years and got bored the fuck out of the genre

It's an extremely easy genre to make. Most of the souls likes, (Elden Ring included) tend to have bad level design. They focus on boss fights alone.
The combat never goes past *dodge, roll, parry.*

Souls games are not call of duty and monster hunter does the same thing

never played even 1 of their games. To me, all souls games look exactly identical. i couldnt tell them apart if u paid me a million dollars, even tho ive seen some streamers playing them.
Another genre that seems to get oversaturated going by summer games fest and such, is pixel roguelike. Indie devs are flocking to pixels in general. I dont like it.
