I'm just trying to understand why, from a biological standpoint, the white knight school of thought is so deeply pervasive and easily triggered. Ultimately, perhaps men feel compelled to defend women above all else because they believe that doing so may grant them a crumb of female validation. They also just want to feel better about themselves, and berating low-value men—whether or not the ones doing the berating are also losers themselves—is the easiest and most socially acceptable way of doing that.
