I already mentioned earlier that it is less about raw population numbers and more about timing. A baby born to a teenage couple is more likely to rely on the services of the state than a baby born to that same couple fifteen years later when they are financially stable homeowners in their early 30s.

Abortion is not the only variable affecting population growth, you're failing to control for other variables as if immigration doesn't exist, and developments in medicine and healthcare didn't significantly lower the child mortality rate over the past decades.
