No. Fuck off with the smith machine. If you don't know how to do anything, at least go for bench presses and deadlifts. Those are pretty easy to learn by yourself.
I started off lifting JUST an empty barbell, which is 45 pounds. Fuck everyone who looks at you funny. Even if you can bench more, your muscles need to get used to balancing the barbell. I did that for a few days and just slowly added weight from there. I can now bench 200+, not anything amazing but still above average since I don't use steroids. But it all started from nothing.
