Once you get to the last few episodes, that's when it starts. A melancholy begins to bubble up from the depths which quickly begins to overflow your very being, threatening to tear your from the world of fantasy you have immersed yourself in. Distracted by this, you are once again reminded of your worldly fears and inadequacies that you had been able to briefly forget. You begin to disassociate with the characters and story that have kept your attention for so long. Soon the series will be over and what you will be left with is a longing to once again experience the bliss, wonder, novelty and mystery that had enchanted you. But you know you will never again be allowed to live through those moments as you did. It is lost forever to time. A door has been closed and sealed, never to open.

Maybe the trick is just to stop watching once you get to the final 3 or 4 episodes. Keep the magic alive. I'll try that next time.

I used to do that a lot. Not finishing books or comics. Its pretty good imo + you can make your own headcanon and whatnot.
