I've been a shut-in for so long. But one dream I always had was to play hockey. My parents were too poor to have me learn as a kid so I missed the opportunity but I always wanted to. Taught myself to skate and figured why not try for a men's hobby team. Issue is, I'm socially retarded and was scared around being a bunch of jocks
Decided to muster up the courage to send an email to the local rec team. They replied, offered I come by, which I did. Issue was, I didn't know what to expect and I expected the worst. I figured I had nothing to lose except stay indoors all the time after work, but driving there was nerve wracking. Nearly vomited in my car before stepping out and walking to the rink
Long story short, I suck at hockey (no shocker) but the guys were really supportive. Most were older guys in their late 30s to early 50s. Guys who work day jobs and just play for fun. Totally different than the jocks I expected.
Honestly bros, it felt nice. It felt really nice actually trying something new, being around grown men who enjoyed a hobby and them accepting me in. We even had a few beers afterwards, since they always bring a crate after practice. I don't know if I'll go back next week and the season ends soon. But for 2 hours, it really felt amazing to not feel like shit for once in my life
