its a stepped tapped horn. should be much more efficient than the box I have now i.e. louder

box is 3x the size but is 4x as loud as the one I have now, with the same speaker

@TheProphetMuscle

Calculates me

hopefully all the pieces will fit together ok, I know I'm gonna have to router at least 1 of them lol

it should be as loud as a normal double 18" subwoofer, using just a single 15"

sweet! You’re making it ported? Yea when I built my boxes i used two 3/4 inch pieces of MDF double baffled so each side of the box was 1.5 inches thick. It’s cool but makes the box for my 2 15s several hundred pounds lol. Yea i wanna see how it turns out

my present box is ported, this one horn loaded, not sure how to explain it but the horn part makes it like 4x louder, but also bigger/heavier

mine is 3/4 birch hardwood, cool thing is the wood was free, I had a 4x8 laying around plus two smaller pieces, it was just barely enough to make it work

It will look something like this when done:

91288b57-89a0-4e93-bc2b-f7e264e45476

It will give nothing to you, stop coping.

Cut the baffle opening, installed the top panel. Also glued the baffle panel in, that was a bitch, it wasn't flat on the side so it kept popping out. Next time I will check for edge flatness before gluing and router if needed

Did you get the design online? Or did you do it urself?

made it myself using a software called hornresp that can show you the frequency response based on the speaker and the box info you put in. Then I put the desired volume into a spreadsheet to figure out the internal dimensions for the folds

I got 8 out of 11 panels glued together so far, it was a bitch cuz I didn't cut the plywood flat enough on the edge, so it didn't want to go together right. Finally went back and routered the edge on all the pieces to be flatter. Hopefully can get it done tomorrow, then test it Friday

it's starting to look like a box now at least

1 panel to go, amazingly I was able to get the top to glue on decently, had to stick my finger in the glue to fill in the edges, no other tool to use :feelsohgod:

the "wood putty" i bought was straight up garbage, it was like dry ice cream, it wouldn't stick at all. then i look at the ingredients list, crystalline silica, aka this shit is just drywall putty that they added food coloring to make it tan :soy:

just have to put the bottom piece and sand the box tomorrow, then i can drag it down to the basement

I literally will lol

or at least some weird sad alt rock aka ARESCEL music

Got it together and down to the basement, it sounds fukin INCREDIBLE, way louder and smooth bass too. Gotta fix a few air leaks with glue tomorrow but that is to be expected :feelsseriously:

Sounds great man. Building shit is always a great cope so long as the building process goes relatively smoothly

It didn't really cuz I fucked up all the edges of the plywood, had to try to fix them all and force it together, lesson learned to cut them straighter next time

but it turned out REALLY well soundwise, I'm very happy with it

what is this used for? seems interesting

^ finished product, sounds fukin INCREDIBLE

yes, I know it still needs paint and my linoleum is ugly as fuk :feelsokman:

Gonna prime it with 2 coats of bin shellac then paint it with 2 coats of either sherwin-williams emerald urethane or ben moore advance

either is a good cabinet paint

Update: painted it with ben moore advance, white hi gloss. 2 coats. also primed it with 2 coats bin shellac. basically i painted it like you would a kitchen cabinet. It turned out pretty nice. damn that advance STINKS LIKE HELL tho, it smells like evil crayons, my whole basement smells TWO MONTHS LATER. Weird thing, it didn't stink that bad when actually painting it, just later on

definitely using emerald urethane or rustoleum oil spray next time

Will show pics. Also used roofing screws to bolt down speaker, they are really good for that

HOT! Teach me how to make my own boombox!!!
There are a lot of details to designing one from scratch, maybe start with a relatively straightforward design online like "Paraflex"

What kind of materials are good man?

Interesting man!
also needs a separate amplifier which is another few hundred lol

this is like the type of stuff they'd use at rock concerts (or better) tho :feelsohh:

I have an amplifier from 2003 sony brand that can blast the hell outta my roof

I could probably make a design that would use like a $200-300 speaker with ~$100 worth of plywood
Man, Do it, I wanted to make speakers for so long!

Wow, did you actually finish it?

How does it actually work? Trick is to give sound as little space as you can, and then let it go in one direction, to avoid losses?
