Theory Fear of "fighting back" against family members

Does anyone else have this?

I was on a night walk tonight and thinking... "Why do I let my dad treat me the way he does? I have rights..."

I realised that I let family treat me way worse than others, if they're so inclined. My dad is not wholly bad. But with a lot of people they become a lot worse if you let them get away with it.

With most people if they treat me truly badly, very quickly it goes into the territory of being illegal and if you just tell them that they will back off quickly. But with family I don't want to open that can of worms so I'm more likely to just take it, or at least not push back anywhere near as hard as I would with others.

Maybe I should learn to express these things in a more subtle way to family so I convey the point without really opening that can of worms, so to speak!

Just wanted to share this as I think it's actually pretty important - I think a lot of people fall into this trap.
