Favorite classic game and why

Extremely broad thread, but my favorite classic game is (obviously) Bully. Despite Bully's age it still holds up well, it's funny, and despite everyone wanting a sequel I don't feel it needs one. Mostly because they'll fuck it up but also the game is a good standalone.

maybe because it was a platformer, and the gameplay, admittedly was average at best.

Definitely. IMO the series peaked with 2000. It had the right balance of complexity. Simcity 3000 was good but not quite as good as 2000. After 3k, it was all downhill from there

it's GameCube/PS2 era so it really depends on where we're drawing the line in console generations

-multiple characters so you can pick playstyle that suits you
-funny dialogue
-crazy good soundtrack
-tons of hidden items and areas
-can either play casual or go hardcore and minmaxx to fight hidden bosses
-fun mimi games in between quests
-memorable characters
-the feels
