Someone move my post to the gaming section. It's 2am here and I can't function.
That said, there is a polticial component to this: the purity obsessed ideologies with their endless infighting mimicks Enclave's stupid plot well.
One of endings, aside from how stupid it sounds, injecting virus into the water to launch a mass genocide does not make sense even for Enclave.
The president gave you a virus to infect the water of the wasteland, which will kill humans infected with mutation.
The Enclave was based on Raven Rock, full of mutation pure humans.
In the game, that the Enclave has anti radiation suits, meaning that some of them have definitely been exposed to radiation with the weapon testings and lab experiments.
Also the enclaves go out of the base and patrol around the wasteland, so some of them are definitely mutated with radiation and will probably carry it onto their offsprings; many enclave soldiers (officers) do not wear radiation protective clothes as well.
So we can see that there is a contradiction; over time, the Enclave and small population, will not only be more genetically inbred but the mutations will also spread around them quickly because they keep recycling the same genes.
Meaning at the end, the water would kill them too. Maybe currently the water will kill 20% of them, but in the next generations, probably more than that.
It's unscientific, and suicidal for Enclave. Peak Bethesda writing.
