They met around 2011 while Larson was incarcerated for violating the terms of his supervised release (after a 2008 conviction for threatening to kill POTUS), and while Mercer-Kinser was incarcerated for child pornography offenses.

Larson interviewed him whilst writing for a prison magazine.

You don't need FOIA (which applies to the executive branch's agencies, not the judiciary, btw, so FOIA doesn't apply) for transcripts, most of the time you can get a transcript for a fee via PACER after a 90-day delay. If you are willing to pay more you can buy it from the court reporter.
