Ex nihilo means creation literally out of nothing classical orthadox belive it literally happened from gods word.
Ex materia means creation from pre eternal matter from the void modern day views spawn from the greek word in genesis for tohu means without form of void.
Ex deo seems to make the most sense the universe prior to creation was part of god god took parts of himself and constructed phyical reality
