Evolutionary psychology is some fedora-tipping cringe becoming as embarrassing as New atheism. To see just how bogus this favorite "blackpillers" stchick is, is to look at it's theoretical zig-zagging. The founder of evolutionary psychology Pyotr Kropotkin was a russian anarchist who argued that solidarity, not competition, has historically been the optimal for the survival of the human species; the opposite of what "evolutionary psychologists" claim today the new Dawkins/Pinker "selfish gene" style of woke darwinism was popularized during the Clinton era, and what do you know, it just happened to be perfectly aligned with the neoliberal zeitgeist of the 1990s global market capitalism = natural state of humanity, greed = good, jew brokers = winners, white trash = losers, promiscuity = healthy, hypergamy = a strategy ... coincidence?

You are making the observation that those who have cultural hegemony influence our assumptions and relationships, which is absolutely correct.

But it does not follow that the basic premise of an "evolutionary psychology" is pseudoscientific, just because most evolutionary psychologists fellate the status quo of their time. Obviously, evolution exerts a strong influence on our psychology -- to a much stronger extent than the cultural zeigeist, in fact, as both anarchists who seek to discredit hierarchy and neoliberals who seek to discredit cooperation inevitably learn.

If anything, the fact that people seek to impose their presuppositions onto evolutionary psychology is proof that there is truth to evolutionary psychology which they wish to obfuscate.

This truth is that humans are evolved to be both cooperative and competitive, within the context of exclusive tribes, and that females and males are not evolved for competing within the same hierarchies but rather within separate ones. The truth is fascism, in its political application.

in the case of today's hypergamy blackpillers and the gal's at femaledatingstrategy try to look or justify it though "evolutionary" lenses, but this is deceptive af: unless you're really desieased or severely deformed, you should be banging your looksmatches right now, but you aren't. Why? Because female sexuality is entangled in the spectacle of late capitalism, being influenced by gossip and mass culture, exposed to social media where a whole fucking industry is shaping her perception of what is "attractive" and that she shouldn't settle for anything less than a ripped demigod.

Yeah its all bs. Full of hidden metaphysical and moral assumptions

Society and evolution are not mutually exclusive, since humans evolved as social animals, but the pressures and sheer scale of mass-society certainly go beyond natural bounds.

So evolutionary psychology has some explanatory value, but you're right that there is more to psychology and what influences our behavior than mere evolutionary presets, and to a certain extent humans really are blank slates who will simply conform to the constructs they're socialized into.

An evolutionary psychologist might just argue that this is all part of our evolutionary programming in the first place. In any case, I agree that being focused exclusively on the question of evolution/nature tends to ignore how detached we actually are from the imperatives of evolution/nature, and how we are thrown out of balance by mass-society and capitalism, which exploits our evolutionary tendencies to its own benefit ("competition" becomes a contest over making money for your boss, "cooperation" becomes brand loyalty, and the "tribe" becomes corporations and their control over you).
