I'm 5'8 and weigh around 146 pounds so I'm not fat but I still wanna lose a little excess weight.
An average man is supposed to have around 2,500 calories a day, so having about 2,000 a day should lose a pound or two a week in weight, but I always considered just fasting for 2 or 3 days, losing a bit of weight quickly and just concentrate on keeping it off. Some people who have done this stated they lost around 5 pounds in weight in 3 days so that could get me down to around 150 pounds but whilst doing it they felt sick, had headaches, hunger pains and lighheadedness. I dont know whether it would be worth it.
There are also a lot of myths around fasting, it doesnt decrease your metabolism, you wont gain weight, it wont eat away at your muscles unless you leave it for around 4 days.
So I dont know, right now im doing the 2,000 calories thing, ill keep you posted about my weight loss. Have you tried fasting?
