Don't you think? I can think of some quite clear cases of harsh punishments for speech, although they don't seem to be as common as in the UK, by far.
Alex Jones is one example, but also many people seem to be hounded down by the law, debanked, etc, over speech.
So whilst I don't think things are as dark over in the US as they are here in the UK... it's still nowhere near as "bright" as it was 10-20 years ago, even.
