The only good things about it was Palpatine and the Senate and the duel. Everything else sucked, but those two elements are good enough to elevate it to ok.

Last Jedi is actually pretty good. It's different than the others; the only thing dragging it down is the casino sequence.

Force Awakens is bland as shit and a beat for beat reboot of ANH. Rise is terrible, although some of the aesthetics were great.

You're not wrong about the EU. The Thrawn Trilogy and parts of the Prequel era stuff (Shatterpoint, Yoda: Dark Rendevouz, Plagueis) is better than any of the movies
