Not popular at all in Australia, at least not where I live. They are prevalent in the cities, but I live more rurally.

Plenty of people (kids) ride e-bikes instead, though. So many of them do retarded shit, like riding without a helmet, riding without lights at night, riding without touching the handlebars, fake swerving into oncoming cars, using their phones whilst riding, etc. (all on public roads). It would be extremely cathartic to watch one of them get destroyed by an oncoming vehicle whilst riding recklessly, considering how difficult these kids make driving and considering how generally disrespectful they are.
