I was on SSRIs for about six years. At best, they relieved my anxiety, but in return brought apathy and other side effects. I started with escitalopram, also tried paroxetine, sertraline, mirtazapine, etc etc. An improvement in the quality of life only occurred when I started taking medications that affect norepinephrine and dopamine more, such as bupropion and milnacipran. But even in this case, the effect was minimal. They gave me some energy, but I still didn't get any enjoyment out of life. The only real antidepressant is money.
