I'm a 41-year-old dinosaur and it's getting to the point where I am pretty much nonfunctional in society. I'm even more lost than 80+ year old grandparents used to be when they tried to use computers.

I don't use faggoty "apps" on my smartphone. I have a really old smartphone and I can't even download that shit.

I have never understood the desire for infinite scroll websites. They look like shit no matter what you're on.

I can't figure out how to use any of this shit millennial and zoomer codefags have come up with.

How the fuck are you kids using this shit as your main electronic device? They're not fucking designed to do actual work on. The entire thing was a gimmick. Even Steve Jobs never thought people should use this shit the way they're using it.

I'm around the same age as you OP, and I'm mostly a desktop guy. I have a smartphone but it's a few years old, though it does everything I need it to do. The only times I use it are when I'm on break at work, or waiting for an appointment or something. That or when I need to do something I can't do on my desktop. Like when I need to scan a QR code, or use an app, or reply to a text, or log into something that requires two-factor authentication, or when a website isn't working properly on desktop but the mobile app works (happens pretty often). So I still use it more often that I'd like to simply because of how the world works in 2026.

I'm a dinosaur these days when it comes to technology as well. To some extent we get a pass because of our age. 80s born millennials were the last ones to have grown up without using smartphones. Trying to do anything on my phone that isn't super basic makes me feel like I'm crippled. I don't know how zoomers spend 8+ hours a day on the internet, and most of their usage is on their phone. Like I can't imagine even writing a post this long on a phone, then again most zoomers generally don't write messages this long. I'm sure this is one of the reasons most comment sections are filled with formulaic one-liners and emojis.

I'm just glad I'm not a zoomer (or a 90s born millennial) because I can't imagine having to use a phone screen anymore than I already do. Even 90s born millennials are so socially stunted and hyper-introverted they avoid talking on the phone whenever possible so if you want to have a conversation with them you have to do it via text. I find it annoying when someone keeps texting me wanting to have a whole ass conversation about something but they don't want to talk on the phone. I've ended up leaving people on read over that.

I use solely my desktop for 98% of things. That being said, there are some things you need a phone for—namely two-factor authentication—and thus I have a smartphone that I use occasionally.

I remember once leaving my phone in my mother's room one morning, and she came to me at the end of the day and informed me that I left it there. My sister was overhearing the conversation and asked me how I genuinely use my phone so little that I don't even notice that it's missing for an entire day. I already made mention of how little I used it before, but I suppose she just didn't believe me. There's just nothing I can do on a phone that I couldn't do on a desktop but better... I suppose that the idea is that you're not supposed to be at your computer at all times, which is true, but the times when I'm neither at a computer nor have access to one almost never need me to have one to begin with.

At most, I might use an LLM outside if I need to really fact check something—and that's only a 'might.'
