I suppose it's the whole "Keeping up with the Joneses" thing. Everyone wants to be seen to be successful and doing well, ideally at least as good as the next person.
And I find it all very tedious and I hate competing like this. I miss when I was a kid or teen, in this regard. Because we didn't judge each other like this we were just all equal. These days... I almost don't worry about the fact that I am currently unemployed, don't drive, etc. Because where does it end? If you're employed you should work somewhere better, if you drive you should get a better car, if you have all that then you should have a great wife. And are you satisfied in your job? Lots of friends?
It just goes on forever.
I also guess I don't deal with pressure and expectations well so it becomes much easier (particularly on my anxiety issues) to opt out of the whole thing.
Sorry to ramble, but does anyone else know what I mean?
