I've seen firsthand how some landlords operate with a heavy hand, their tactics skirting the edges of legality and resembling the methods of a Mafia. When I still lived with my parents, I watched neighbors get swiftly evicted over a single late rent payment, a harsh move that seemed more about flexing power than following fair process, even payment arrangement for them was completely off the table.
As an electrician I was once asked after hours, to cut off those same neighbors electricity, likely to pressure them out faster (which is completely illegal) I refused, unwilling to cross ethical lines or violate regulations governing utility services. Example of how some landlords act with a near Mafia mentality, using intimidation to control tenants rather than respecting legal standards.
I'll move into my own condo this winter, luckily.
