My city was a British colony, and obviously British English was/is the official norm for English itself.
When I hear British accent, I associate it with authority or official(ish) messaging in English; highly formal documentations, announcements, and English listening tests.
Contrasting is American English; it is less formal and more casual, like "hey bros" that would sound strange in British English.
