I can see the argument for both sides, although I feel being in a simulation would explain a lot.

We could have been a test of sort for whomever higher being/beings you believe in. The test clearly being how an uglier and nd human would be treated in the world

They have their own saints (Famous scientists/inventors/etc)
Their “faith” is science

We have games that simulate the universe on a smaller more compressed scale, and our governments have world simulators that act out events happening.

It is not Impossible that a being/beings got so advanced they were able to simulate us.
