Currently, prostitution is only legal in several Nevada counties. Apparently prostitution was also at one time “legal” in Rhode Island, since no statutes specifically forbidding the act existed. However that changed in 2009 after specific laws were passed.
Do you think that more states will ever allow legal prostitution? After all it’s considered the first ever job, and sex has the possibility to grow into one of the biggest legal industries if proper legislation is passed. Legalization will allow for a brand new regulated industry that is safer for both workers and consumers.
Typically conservatives are the ones to oppose this type of legalization. Over the past few years, we have seen a shift towards a more “blue” country. However in recent years, the political pendulum still seems to swing fairly equally, and no one party has had too much of an extended stay in the spotlight. Even though we currently have a lot of democrats in office, several urgent issues have pushed the distant possibility of legal prostitution even further on the back burner. I think it may be a very long time before the issue is even brought to prominence, let alone taken into serious consideration.
