Our ancestors weren't meant to breed either but unlike us, they got an opportunity to do it. People are selfish scum - they would have kids despite being unfit to be parents (not only genetics-wise, but also in terms of parenting ability). I'm sure if the demographics, laws and culture were better, a lot of us would breed, even the ones who weren't raised well enough to be fit for parenting, myself probably included.
