Ive noticed a similar trend in NE USA, Hispanics and SE Asians tend to gravitate towards overweight white dudes moreso than white foids. It’s probably just betabuxxing but I wonder if there’s some minor cultural element to it…

It's difficult to be attractive or even average when you are fat. Nevertheless some fat guys do ok if they have good features otherwise losing weight is a necessity. Also being less than 5 lbs overweight or borderline overweight is fine. But being obese is not.
