Do the "powers that be" sometimes just pick a target and then throw everything at them?

Just something I've been thinking about tonight. For example with Alex Jones and now with Roblox, and I've seen this kind of thing happen other times too I think.

They're just cult creation tactics. No one really cares or opposes these things for long. It only makes their fanatic followers more fanatic. And the moderates move onto something else.
