When I was younger a lot of people assumed I must be gay due to my total lack of girlfriends.
My female cousin called me "a bum boy" 35 years ago causing a massive row and I haven't spoken to her since. I just didn't see any point in humiliating myself by attempting to initiate a relationship with any woman I was attracted to. I honestly couldn't wait for WW3 to start and see distant atomic explosions before being vapourised myself.
I never expected to live beyond 30 years of age.
Since then against my better judgement I have tried a couple of times and obviously have been publicly rejected and humiliated, even lost jobs over it which has had a devastating effect on my mental health.
