Discussion Do most parents mainly want a child or an adult?

Sorry if this sounds like a weird question/topic!

What I mean is... when most couples have a kid, do you think they mainly like the idea of them as this cute child, or an adult out accomplishing things in the world, or both equally?

Just something I've been thinking about recently.

They want kids, but if they don’t develop and stay as kids forever, they know it’s over.

Wow most people so far have said child.

I guess that's what I always thought it was but recently I was thinking that maybe at least some parents are truly thinking about and looking forward to their child being an adult and what he/she might do, etc.

They're really quite different visions.
