For me it depended on the class. In math, I never really participated since I was too busy catching up with the rest of the class on the subject material (due to being a
) so I couldn't contribute. Sometimes I would get called on randomly and I'd embarrass myself as I tried to solve a problem for the class. I'd only willingly participate if the class was quiet that day and I'd answer an easy question so I would have a lesser chance on being called on randomly later during the lecture when the material got more difficult.
In language arts, science and social studies classes, I felt better about participating since I was better at these subjects. I sometimes would try to be sarcastic/witty with my answers to try to be the class clown and make everyone laugh. (I seriously thought this would make me friends) But no one would laugh and I would get treated to an awkward silence. Occasionally someone would repeat my joke if it was funny enough and the class would laugh even though they didn't when I originally said it.
