The Holodomor was a terrible crime against humanity, which most countries recognized only in 2022 because of Putin's "Special Military Operation." The famine caused the most damage to Ukraine, but Kazakhstan also suffered greatly. Stalin took away grain and other products from people so that they would starve to death, and he sent them for export to receive currency in order to use this currency to buy machine tools and other products for industrialization.
Stalin deliberately prepared millions of people for a painful and prolonged death from starvation, so he considered the construction of factories more important.

It wasn't man-made as far as I know, just a catastrophic mismanagement by chekists that resulted in famine in several areas of USSR. If I remember correctly kazakhstan had it worse than ukraine, where about 90% of all cattle was just slaughtered for meat, but I have to double check it which I'm too lazy to do at the moment. For predominantly agricultural russia to famish in millions dead - only communists could.
