I think we should not overfit things. Some foids claim to have DID as excuse-finding or attention-seeking, but it's not "made up by foids". DID became a so-called "fad diagnosis" after Corbett H. Thigpen and Hervey M. Cleckley (two men) popularized it in their best-seller book The Three Faces of Eve. I invite you to do a bit of digging by yourself from there
