"Dead Frontier 2" is a free to play zombie survival horror game (available on Steam). It's an upgraded version of a browser based game that was released in 2008.
You basically start off in the hub area and then travel around the game world (a bleak post-apocalyptic city) to complete tasks and missions, usually given by NPCs. Upon completing them you'll get XP and cash which can be used to level up your character and buy weapons and items. And as you grow stronger, you'll be able to explore the more dangerous areas of the map and take on tougher enemies.
The missions reset every 24 hours and new NPCs appear at the base who'll give you new missions. But all these missions have the same template.
It's either: A) find a specific object or person in a particular building, B) Eliminate a certain number of zombies from a building or C) Loot a certain number of items from a building.
I have mixed feelings about the game. While fighting zombies is fun, the game feels repetitive: take on mission, go to location, complete mission, return to base to restock. Rinse and repeat. I'm starting to feel fatigued.
Sometimes in search missions you'll have to comb through an entire apartment just to find one object (like an inhaler or an engagement ring). The area is basically a maze of hallways and the object you're looking for can spawn in one of the last rooms you explore.
I've spent 80 hours on it over the last few days and I'm currently above level 30. The game is fun in it's own way and I play while listening to something on YouTube.
So I've decided to play the game for another couple of days. If nothing interesting happens, I'll probably delete my character and uninstall the game.
