I know this was before my and pretty much everyone on this board's time but 30 to 40 years ago women were scared / nervous too go to bars and clubs. They obviously went and that was the place where most hookups and connections were made however there was a very different mentality with women in those days. Women had to actually be responsible on some level when it came to their safety and they couldn't accuse men of wrongdoing in the same way they can now. Women who go out now obviously still are careful in the sense of watching out for what's being put in their drink in the type of guys who are around them but back then women also had to be careful about leading men on and certain social situations.
A lot of men don't want to admit this but millennials, generation x, and the boomers got laid a lot of times because of peer pressure and social awkwardness put on women. There were plenty of times where men were able to wear women down and a bar or club setting and women, just to be polite acquiesce to their demands. Your father or grandfather probably met your mom through what would now be considered" toxic behavior" or "stalking". Obviously these tactics don't work for the average man anymore. Only Chad can now be persistent with women.
Women now have the social acceptability to completely shut men away from them in any social interaction. Whether it be in a informal outside setting, or even in a work environment. This also leads women to be a lot more disrespectful since they know that at any moment of their choosing they can completely ruin a man's life by saying " he was acting weird". Women now is so shielded by any undesired interactions from low status males that it is dystopian.
