He's my favourite youtuber right now, I quite enjoy watching how he keeps fucking up his life more and more. I do feel a bit of sympathy for him because it's clear that he's mentally unwell, he's 30 but in his livestream which I just watched he was behaving in a manner that you'd expect from a prebuscent child. How can you tell the difference between a mildly autistic person and someone who is just really socially awkward? I sometimes feel like I may suffer from it but I don't have any trouble identifying facial expresions which seems to be a core symptom of autism so I'm not sure.

Autism is a very poorly understood condition, and there is no good answer to your question.

Social awkwardness is not exclusive to the autism spectrum, but in my view it is definitely a trait recognizable in autism. In autism it is a clumsy and insensitive form of social inflexibility, because it stems from lack of empathy. No matter how hard you try, this lack of social understanding never goes away.

Not recognizing facial expressions and emotions can be measured objectively and follow Baron-Cohens´s extreme male brain-theory. But remember, this is not something you can judge subjectively through life experiences and perceived reality. Also, the male gender as a whole is not very good at recognizing facial expressions and emotions compared to the female population.

Perceived social awkwardness can be caused by social anxiety, agoraphobia, schizoid personality disorders and many other pathological and normal variants of the personality.

Autism is a rabbit hole and if you read about "theory of mind" and "the extreme male brain hypothesis" you just scratch the surface.
