I work in international development, which means I sometimes travel to diverse countries (sometimes alone) and meet a lot of strangers on assignments, often requiring connecting on WhatsApp or LinkedIn. As a young-ish woman, this has led to many annoying interactions with local men.
At the airport, hotel, on the street, inevitably some random guy will beeline to me, tell me I’m pretty, ask personal questions (like where are you staying?? absolutely not!), ask for my contact info (obviously I refuse), want to practice their English, etc. Recently I even pretended I was European and didn’t speak English well, instead the guy decided to keep it going by mansplaining which countries are anglophone or francophone.
